Dr. Nikhil Kenny Thomas, Consultant Gastroenterologist at Dr. KM Cherian Institute of Medical Sciences, successfully performed an endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for an elderly patient with a high-risk rectal polyp. The procedure achieved complete en-bloc removal, offering precise, organ-preserving treatment while avoiding major surgery. ESD provides significant advantages for selected patients—especially the elderly—by ensuring accurate histopathology, minimizing recurrence and promoting faster recovery through minimally invasive care.
