Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery & Critical Care Medicine at Dr. KM Cherian Institute of Medical Sciences organized the ‘Dr. K. M Cherian Memorial Symposium’.
Rev. Fr. Dr. Alexander Koodarathil, Managing Director of KMC Hospital, inaugurated the CME and delivered the Dr. K. M. Cherian Memorial Oration. The Critical Care CME and Year-End ECMO Review was a unique academic initiative that included a commemorative lecture honouring the legacy and contributions of Dr. K. M. Cherian.
The symposium began with an introductory address by Dr. Sunil Agarwal, Consultant Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon, who shared heartfelt memories and expressed his deep gratitude to Dr. K. M. Cherian.
The scientific sessions featured expert talks on ‘VA ECMO in acute cardiogenic shock’ by Dr. Dipanjan Chatterjee, President of ESOI and Director of ECMO Services at Manipal Hospitals, Kolkata; ‘VV ECMO – current status’ by Dr. Jobin Abraham, Senior Consultant in Anaesthesiology and Critical Care at Aster Medcity Multispeciality Hospital, Kochi and the ‘Year-End ECMO case review’ by Dr. Geevarghese K. Mathew, Director of the ECMO Program and Consultant Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon at KMC Hospital, Chengannur.
The sessions were chaired by Dr. Anand Srinivasan, Sr. Consultant Cardiologist at KMC Hospital, Chengannur; Dr. Thomas P. George, Professor and Head of the Department of Anaesthesiology at Pushpagiri Medical College Hospital, Thiruvalla; Dr. Mathew Pulicken, Professor and Head of Critical Care at Pushpagiri Medical College Hospital, Thiruvalla; and Dr. Philip Mathew, Professor and Head of Critical Care at Believers Church Medical College Hospital, Thiruvalla; Dr. Sajith Sulaiman, Senior Consultant and Chairman of the ESOI Kerala Chapter; Dr. Vinitha V. Nair, Assistant Professor and Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Government Medical College, Kottayam; and Mr. Daniel Mathew, In-charge Cardiac Perfusionist at KMC Hospital, Chengannur.
The program witnessed active participation from doctors of Dr. KM Cherian Institute of Medical Sciences as well as eminent doctors across the Kerala.
