Close your eyes and imagine standing under a night sky and watching the infinite number of stars that paint the world we live in. The fact that we can imagine something like that, is a pure masterpiece made by our consciousness. No two people’s imaginations would be identical. The difference between them is our Brain. The most complex organ in our body that sets us apart from other living things has been known to date. There is still a vast majority of questions unanswered when it comes to the complete understanding of our Brain. Like, what is the basis for what it does, the way it does? Is it at its primitive state or full potential? What our capabilities will be when it undergoes upgradation?

From the microscopic chemical processes to the unbelievable imaginations and discoveries that we are capable of, Is the Brain our answer to the union of Quantum mechanics and Astrophysics? Do the fundamentals of physics originate from chemistry? Sounds absurd, isn’t it? How is it possible for us to form a thought chemically and experience physically? Is there a bridge between these? Is Biology the bridge?

If this appears like a crazy thought, probably it is. The chemical process in your brain is transformed into a physical response, that you are sharing with me now. The understanding side of it was done by your brain through chemical reactions involving neurons, their supporting cells, and their response to different neurotransmitters, which are chemicals. So, how does this variation in energies for the response differ from one another?

As a Neurosurgeon, I have the privilege that I share with a minute part of this world, of looking into someone’s brain. When I see it, the Brain reminds me of a saint, sitting under a tree, with his eyes closed and lost in thought. It is processing a lot of information than I can’t possibly think of, in its presence. It is a sight to behold and a moment to cherish. The expanse of neural networks and their chemical reactions make it next to impossible in a world of 8 billion people to have an identical existence to the other.

Here lies the answer to why no two people’s imaginations are the same. As mind-blowing as it is, I would like to think that we have barely scraped the surface of our understanding of the Brain.

Let me give you a thought experiment. What if the answer to the chemical-to-physical response conversion is right in front of our eyes? We see it, yet we don’t realise it. What if it requires a deeper scratch on our brain, to see the obvious? And if you were to be stimulated or the overload circuit breakers, be deactivated, where would you look for it? In the realms of quantum mechanics and chemistry or the infinite possibilities of space-time? And how far deep will you dive in pursuit of it? Will these thoughts be free or bound by, for example, time or gravity? Will you go beyond the sanity of insanity to understand the meaning of life? A few will go. For in the hands of a scientist, it could be his/her thunderbolt. And in the hands of the uninitiated, it will be his/her road to self-realisation.

Whatever the path you pursue my friend, you are in for a treat!

Your Brain holds the key to your world. Take Care.
