The Advanced Centre for Liver Disease and Transplantation at Dr. KM Cherian Institute of Medical Sciences was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister of State for Health, Government of Maldives, Mr. Mohamed Mahir.
The function was presided over by Rev. Fr. Dr. Alexander Koodarathil (Managing Director, Dr. KMC Hospital), who presented the comprehensive five year plan to be implemented in collaboration with the government in the field of liver disease treatment.
The approval certificate from the Government of Kerala for conducting liver, pancreas and small intestine transplants was received by him from Dr. Noble Gracious (Executive Director, Kerala State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization). The hospital had already received approval for heart and kidney transplants last year.
The event was addressed by Medical Superintendent and Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon Dr. Geevarghese K. Mathew, Gastro Surgeons Dr. Murali Appukuttan, Dr. Arunkumar A, Gastroenterologists Dr. Anup S. Nair, Dr. Nikhil Kenny Thomas and Dr. Deepak James.
Around 100 doctors and healthcare professionals from various parts of Kerala attended the function.
