1.5 Kg Hepatocellular Carcinoma (Liver Tumour) Successfully Removed at KMC Hospital, Chengannur
The Department of Surgical Gastroenterology at Dr. KM Cherian Institute of Medical Sciences successfully performed a right hepatectomy for a bleeding giant hepatocellular carcinoma following emergency transarterial embolisation (tumour weighing 1.5 kg). The surgery was led by Dr. Murali Appukuttan, Consultant HPB, Gastro-Onco and Transplant Surgeon.
The team acknowledges the invaluable support of Dr. Geevarghese K. Mathew (Medical Superintendent & Consultant Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon), Dr. Arunkumar A (Consultant Gastrosurgeon), Dr. Reman Rajendran (Junior Consultant Gastrosurgeon), Dr. Naveen Pillai (Senior Consultant Anaesthesia), Dr. Laxmikanth Jella (Consultant Neurovascular & Interventional Radiologist), Dr. Divya Mary Elias (Consultant Pulmonologist), Dr. Alex Paul (Consultant Radiologist), along with the Critical Care Medicine team and the OT and ICU staff.
The patient was discharged in a stable condition without any morbidity or post-hepatectomy liver failure (PHLF) within two weeks.
